Steps to a Better Trip

Research
– find a place, decide trail length, talk to rangers

Plan
– gather map and materials, gear checklist, itinerary,
directions, menu, trip plan (contact info, etc.)

Pack
– use checklist, choose your ounces wisely, how-to advice,
pack management (color coding stuff sacks)

Load-up
– put all gear together in one place beforehand, use
a quick load-up list

Check-in
– at ranger station, last minute weather and warnings

Hike
– wear proper attire, shoes & socks, seasonal attire

Camp
– leave no trace, established vs. not-established campsites,
fires, bear-bagging

Eat
– plenty and often, food and menu suggestions, cooking
and cookware info

Drink
– plenty and often, water filtration/purification techniques/equipment

– take time to take it in, pictures
