12 Steps to a Better Trip
  1. Research – find a place, decide trail length, talk to rangers
  2. Plan – gather map and materials, gear checklist, itinerary, directions, menu, trip plan (contact info, etc.)
  3. Pack – use checklist, choose your ounces wisely, how-to advice, pack management (color coding stuff sacks)
  4. Load-up – put all gear together in one place beforehand, use a quick load-up list
  5. Check-in – at ranger station, last minute weather and warnings
  6. Hike – wear proper attire, shoes & socks, seasonal attire
  7. Camp – leave no trace, established vs. not-established campsites, fires, bear-bagging
  8. Eat – plenty and often, food and menu suggestions, cooking and cookware info
  9. Drink – plenty and often, water filtration/purification techniques/equipment
  10. Enjoy – take time to take it in, pictures
  11. Reflect – tell someone about your trip or keep a journal (helps solidify the experience in your mind)
  12. Post – the specifics of the trip on Backpackers Anonymous so others can try it
